How I celebrated Chinese New Year
On the eve of Chinese New Year, I went to my grandparents' house to play and have reunion dinner. Two cousins did not turn up as they had their reunion dinner at their paternal grandparents' place. We were disappointed. As they lived in Choa Chu Kang, we could not play with them often. Although they were not there to have fun with us, my brother, two of our cousins and I enjoyed many games together.
At 6.45 in the morning, my family and I got ready and my father drove us to Malaysia. My father is a Malaysian and we visit our relatives in Malaysia at least once a year.
We reached there around 9 and rested in our room in our grandmother's house. We had eggs with bread for breakfast. It was tantalising. Then, my brother and I went for a scooter ride (our favourite!).
It was a little boring in the morning but when it became dark, we played with sparklers and enjoyed fireworks put up by other residents.
On the second day, we went through the same type of day:boring! We went to our late great-grandmother's house. We looked at the wild boar and the little baby boars there. It stunk!!! I was careless and I jumped on a "hill". It was then I realised a red ant was on my big toe! I screamed and cried. My father took hold of my left foot and tried to brush the ant off. Finally, the red ant dropped and I was safe.
We rested in my grandmother's house a little while and my uncle asked my mother if she wanted to looked at the plantation which was left for the Khoo family. She agreed excitedly and we set off. The Mitsubishi Triton and Mazda 5 went up a bumpy hill. The plantation was very big. The worker lived on the tip of the hill. We walked through the long grass. I was angry and tired. We returned to the car and to my surprise, my brother's slipper had a red ant on it! Luckily, it was not too terrible.
By then, we were exhausted. When I was about to take an afternoon nap, my cousins came and they invited us to their house to play with them. We were happy that something fun came up. At 8, we arrived at their house. We ate some New Year goodies before we went out into their garden where we played with sparklers. I was fascinated by the fireworks the residents put up. They were as bright as stars and very colourful. I liked the gold ones the best.
After breakfast on the third day, we returned back to Singapore. We left with different emotions: a little happy, a little sad. Still, HOME is the Best!!!!
